Walking for Anna – Rutland Water Charity Walk
On Saturday 12th September 2026, we’ll be taking on a 15.1-mile walk around Rutland Water to raise vital funds for Brain Tumour Research Campaign (BTRC) in memory of Anna Louise Swabey.
Anna was just 23 when she was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour. Rather than quietly accepting what was happening to her, she used the time she had to speak out about the devastating lack of funding for brain tumour research, sharing her story through her blog Inside My Head, campaigning for change and raising an incredible amount of money along the way.
Anna died in September 2016, aged just 25.
Ten years on, we’re still walking, fundraising and fighting in her name.
Rutland Water is special to our family as we spent many years there when Anna was born, growing up just down the road in Oakham.
So far there are 24 of us walking in memory of Anna, but just like Anna’s Army ten years ago fundraising with her to help her reach her £100k goal, we say “the more, the merrier” to help fight for better outcomes for brain tumour warriors. So if you’d like to join us on our walk then do let us know. We’d love to have you 💕💕
We’ll set off from Normanton at 9:30am, walking 15.1 miles anti-clockwise around Rutland Water, with friends, family and supporters joining together to remember Anna and help fund the research that could give other families a different future.
Every donation, however big or small, will go towards BTRC and the fight for better treatments and, ultimately, a cure for brain tumours.
If you knew Anna, please donate in her memory.
If you didn’t, donate because people like Anna fought for a future they knew they might never get to see.
Walking for Anna. Remembering always. Raising hope. 💗
