I’m really pleased to share that my Charity of the Year for 2026 will be Rubies.

Rubies was founded right here in our area after research showed just how disadvantaged many girls growing up in Teesside were. Instead of accepting that as a label, Rubies was created to send a very different message: that every girl has value, strength and potential.

Based in South Bank, Rubies now supports over 300 girls every year, helping them build confidence, self-esteem and resilience through trauma-informed work in schools and local communities.

The name says it all. Rubies are formed under pressure, are incredibly precious, and have their own unique imperfections. Just like the girls they support.

I’m really looking forward to working with the brilliant team at Rubies over the year ahead and doing all I can to support the life-changing work they do for young people across our area.
