Anna's fundraiser for NEC UK (Necrotising Enterocolitis)

London Marathon 2024 · 21 April 2024 ·
I am lucky enough after many years of trying to get a place in London Marathon 2024. I am running for a charity very close to my families hearts NEC UK. Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC) is a serious gastrointestinal disease primarily affecting premature infants, causing inflammation and potential tissue death in the intestines.
Most people wouldn’t have heard of NEC nor had we until our amazing twins were born. Jack & Katie were born 8 weeks early weighing a tiny Jack 3lb 11 and Katie 2lb 2 and although Katie was born in the better state her journey was just beginning. On Day five she was rushed to Addenbrookes Cambridge with suspected NEC. After it trying to be controlled medically on day 7, we got the dreaded phone call in the night that we needed to come now our beautiful daughter was critical and needed surgery. We got her blessed and walked her down to surgery. The chance of survival was small. But beautiful Katie kept fighting and after 99 days in NICU Cambridge. A 5 and half hour operation to put her back together she finally came home in time for Christmas and our family was complete.
Katie is now a small but mighty 6-year-old who miraculously so far seems to have got away without any lasting problems. But that is not the case for a large number of babies NEC is a devastating, life changing or ending disease.
Your Generous contribution will support research, raise awareness, and provide assistance to families navigating the challenges of NEC. Help us in the fight against this devastating condition and contribute to a brighter, healthier future for these vulnerable individuals. Every donation counts in our mission to improve outcomes and enhance the quality of life for NEC patients and their families
