Story
In 2017, three months before our wedding, my husband Tom underwent major open heart surgery in London. This came out of the blue and was a pretty scary time for the whole family. He needed to go back to theatre, he had fluid on his lungs and experienced SEVERE post-operative delirium (which involved him attempting to escape the ward 2 days after surgery!!). Thankfully, he recovered in hospital and can now live a reasonably normal life. He will need surgery again in the future to replace his damaged valve.
My Uncle has also recently undergone major surgery at papworth hospital, coronary artery bypass surgery. He suffered multiple heart attacks in the process but is thankfully back home and on the mend.
Despite the London marathon being a considerable challenge for myself, it's nothing compared to those who go through major surgery and those who live with chronic conditions. The British Heart Foundation continuously try to Pioneer new research and technology, support those living and suffering with cardiac conditions and provide funding to allow advancements in medical treatment. I work as a physiotherapist in the NHS and see first hand how living with heart conditions affect’s people's quality of life. Please support me in my fundraising challenge and I will give the marathon my best efforts!
