Relief of suffering and distress amongst persons endangered by accidents or natural hazards in South and Mid-Wales, but without geographical limitations.

Story

Hi, my name is David Powell, but many know me as Dai. I'm the founder of the Walking the Brecon Beacons group, which I started over eight years ago with a passion for exploring nature and supporting our incredible emergency services. Over the years, we've raised thousands of pounds for these dedicated teams, and last year alone, we raised £1,000 for Central Beacons Mountain Rescue.

This year, I'm embarking on a new adventure with my good friend Ian Bills. Together, we're heading back to Nepal and are excited to use this journey to raise funds for South Wales Search and Rescue Association (SWSARA). Our goal is to support the essential work they do and help raise much needed funds for the lifesaving services they provide.

Why SWSARA Matters:

SWSARA (South Wales Search and Rescue Association) plays a vital role in keeping our communities safe. Here's a glimpse of the incredible work they do:

1. Representation: SWSARA acts as the regional representative for mountain and cave rescue teams across South Wales, ensuring a collaborative and coordinated approach to all incidents. Working alongside the Welsh Government, Mountain Rescue England and Wales (MREW), and all the emergency services, SWSARA plays a key role in making sure that rescue teams are fully integrated and ready to respond at a moment's notice.

Mountain rescue is “so much more than mountains.” Teams are called out often in the worst conditions, dealing with a wide range of emergencies from mountain rescues to assisting in other critical situations. Thanks to this close collaboration, MR volunteers can provide vital, life-saving services when they are needed most.

2. Training: A key part of SWSARA's work is organising and supporting regional training initiatives. These include critical courses like Remote Rescue Medical Technician and Foundation courses, which provide essential skills for team members. Through ongoing professional development, SWSARA ensures that every rescue volunteer is prepared to face the unpredictable challenges of the terrain and weather in South Wales.

3. Support: Beyond training, SWSARA provides ongoing support to its member teams through advice, resources, and fostering collaboration. Their ultimate goal is to ensure that every team is well prepared, fully equipped, and ready to save lives when it matters most.

By supporting this fundraiser, you are directly contributing to the vital training and resources that keep our mountain and cave rescue teams ready for action. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference and could be the key to saving a life.

Thank you for your support!
