I started running in 2010 (aged 51!); I've never been fast and never will be, but I love the sense of achievement when I've done a run and running has brought some lovely lovely people into our lives.

The London Marathon has been on my bucket list since I started running, the one I've always wanted to do. Year after year I've applied to the ballot, year after year I've failed to gain a place. Through a pharmacy charity I was offered a place in 2020 - But remember what happened in 2020; so no marathon that year. (I did run the "Virtual London Marathon" in October 2020 _ and it was a great experience, thanks to the support of many friends - but finishing in West Vale is not quite the same as finishing on the Mall.)

April 2023 (while recuperating from my 2nd hip replacement) I applied to the ballot again, and got in! It seemed a good idea when I entered the ballot, less so when I got a place. However, come Sunday April 21st I shall be on the start line in Greenwich Park and I'm very excited, as well as more than a little nervous.

I'm delighted to have the opportunity to raise money for Overgate Hospice, it's a charity I've supported before and it's very special to me and to many people in Calderdale. Overgate provides specialist care to adults with life-limiting illnesses and extends that care to families and loved ones. I have had the absolute privilege to be a trustee of Overgate since September 2021and to see at close hand the amazing work of the staff and volunteers. To provide the extraordinary care it does Overgate needs to raise almost £10,000 each day.
