Story

I have said yes to something that is either very brave or very stupid - possibly both?

At 68, after 40 years behind a BBC news desk, I have said yes to something that is either very brave or very stupid... And yet… here we are.

Rainbows Hospice has been close to my heart for many years. I've been a patron of Rainbows for as long as I can remember, and through the Fashanne Awards we've raised money for them time and time again. When Rainbows asks, I find it virtually impossible to say no, and honestly, I wouldn't want to.

I'm doing this for Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People - the East Midlands' only hospice for children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions. Rainbows is almost entirely dependent on donations to keep its doors open and its services running. Every single penny raised goes directly to supporting babies, children, young people and their families through the most unimaginably difficult times.

The work Rainbows does, the care, the compassion, the memories they help families make is extraordinary. The least I can do is conquer a small amount of vertical stone for them….

Please donate if you can. Even the smallest amount makes a real difference. And if you'd like to come and watch me nervously descend a cathedral on 3rd October - you are very welcome.

Thank you, from the bottom of my (currently terrified) heart.
