I'm A Councillor, get me out of here - The Chomp Challenge · 17 August 2023

Raising finances to support Clothed In Love; an antipoverty initiative in Renfrewshire providing clothing and essential items for children aged 0-10, and resources for Mossy International School; an independent primary school in the remote village of Krokoshwe, Ghana.

Story

I am one of the Renfrewshire Councillors who is taking part in the Provost's Chomp Challenge in aid of Clothed In Love run by Mossvale Community Church in Paisley. I would be very grateful for any donations for this incredibly worthwhile cause. Anyone who knows me will be aware that eating horrible things is definitely one of my worst nightmares, but it will be worth it! We are not even allowed to just swallow them ... we have to chew!

Clothed in Love is a volunteer-led initiative which redistribute preloved baby and kids clothing and equipment to families in need across Renfrewshire and beyond. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity. Their wish list is below, so as you can see any amount at all will be put to great use.

Clothed in Love Wish List 2023:

£5 Gives us the opportunity to provide the bare minimum for any vulnerable parents and families such as nappies, or baby teats.

£10 Provide an essential toiletries pack containing items such as baby shampoo, baby bath lotion and baby sponges.

£20 Enables us to purchase required items of clothing that we don’t currently have in stock

£50 Allows us to purchase high chairs and other necessary equipment for those in need.

£250 Would allow us to purchase 4 new buggies, which would help the most vulnerable families get their babies and children to essential services.

£500 Can pay for a bulk order of 10 new cot mattresses, as they cannot be upcycled.

£1500 Allow us to buy cots to ensure we have a good supply if our kind donations run out.

The Chomp Challenge – The Rules

1. This is a challenge, so these will not be your everyday food items, think along the lines of the I’m a celebrity food challenges to give you some ideas. Although we promise there will be nothing you are expected to chow down on that is currently alive!

2. We know you’ll be tempted to just swallow, to get it over with quickly, we’ve all been there with things we don’t like the taste of… HOWEVER it is a ‘chomp’ challenge so you will be expected to take at least two or three chews of each item or sips as the case may be.

3. The suggested donations for sponsorship would be £5, £1 per item chomped. Your challenge is tasting 5 different delicacies.

4. This challenge will be shown live on the Provost’s facebook channel, so please no sweary words, young ears may be listening!

5. Each Councillor will be taken into the chamber one at a time, so the surprise of what you’re eating remains a secret until you sit down to dine, so this rule is in two parts

(i) No trying to bribe the staff to tell you what’s ‘on the menu’, they have nerves of steel, even chocolate doesn’t work..

(ii) If you are before a colleague or friend, no secret squirrel messages to them to tell them what to expect, let them get the same pleasant surprise that you got.

6. Guilt tripping other ‘colleagues’ who are not brave enough or not able to do this challenge for this very worthwhile charity is perfectly acceptable, encouraged even *wink*

7. Remember if something really is too much, simply yell ‘I’m a Councillor get me out of here’ and we will either move to the next item or end the challenge if you’re on the final morsel.

8. The sponsorship monies are due to be paid two weeks after the challenge, preferably by bank transfer.

9. Don’t forget to ask sponsors to complete their home addresses on the sponsorship forms. This is required for gift aid purposes as it will ensure they are a UK tax payer.

10. Smiling for photographs at the end is compulsory!

Thank you!
