Story
This year, I'm turning 85, and I've decided to lace up my walking shoes once again to support a cause very close to my heart: Alzheimer's Research UK (ARUK).
Thirteen years ago, I lost my beloved husband, Willie, after he lived with Alzheimer's for over eight years. In those days, the help and information available were not what they are today. We faced many challenges, but thanks to the tireless work of researchers, the story has changed. There's now more support and understanding for families affected by this devastating disease.
Despite the progress, a cure has yet to be found. And so, I will be walking to honor the memory of Willie, I miss him every single day and all the lovely walks we shared together.
It has been some time since I last fundraised for ARUK, but I hope with all my heart that a cure is closer than ever. To help this cause I started with a 17 mile hike from Nethybridge through the Cairngorms to Aviemore. I plan on continuing with many walks for as long as I can. Keep a check on my updates for all my challenges and photos.
Together, we really can make a difference. If you have a few pounds to spare, please consider donating. Your contribution, no matter how small, will help fund vital research and bring us one step closer to a world without Alzheimer's.
Thank you so much for your support.
A note from ARUK....
Every 3 minutes dementia steals a happily ever after. Research is our only chance of changing the ending for people affected by dementia.
We are the UK's leading dementia research charity. We exist for a cure.
Your donation helps our scientists and researchers find new ways to diagnose dementia, develop new treatments and find a cure for dementia.
