Story
I've suffered from depression, anxiety, and passive suicidal ideation since adolescence, but somehow I'm still here.
Hey. I'm Anne. Some of you may know me from work, others from my photography, but what a lot of people probably don't know is that despite the sunny personality that you may see on most days (with the wacky dress sense and obsession with the colour yellow), in April 2018, I had made plans to end my life. I couldn't see a way past 30, my relationship at the time had broken down, I had developed an eating disorder and weighed just 5st (32kg), and all the fears and anxieties I'd had since my childhood and leaving home at 17 had all caught up with me.

I've suffered from depression, anxiety, and passive suicidal ideation since adolescence, but somehow I'm still here. As an adult, and as a result of two traumatic workplace incidents, I have suffered from C-PTSD, as well as relapses into disordered eating; I have learned to live with all of this and to take each day as it comes. Thankfully, I am in a much better place than where I was before, and whilst tomorrow is never promised, I am always appreciative of the fact that I have such a wonderful support network now of friends, loved ones, my railway family, and lots of others.
Sadly, an available support network may not be the case for anyone that may be struggling right now. Mental health services in the UK are at breaking point, especially in today's world where there are so many things out there making many people anxious or question the point of being here. Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is a suicide prevention charity with loads of tools and resources to help people find the support they need, including a life-saving helpline for people who can’t see a way forward, have lost someone to suicide, or are worried about their friends or loved ones.
£12.20 is enough to fund one potentially life-saving call, but any donation will make a valued contribution in helping to prevent suicide. I'm walking a half-marathon this coming January, during one of the gloomiest times of the year, to hopefully raise some money for CALM and for those out there who could potentially receive some life-saving intervention – a bit of light on one of their darkest days.
