Anne's fundraiser for PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide

Anne Stephens is raising money for PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide
In memory of Toby Thorn

Sahara Desert Trek · 19 February 2026

Papyrus is a young person’s suicide prevention charity. That means we provide urgent support, education, campaigns and conversations that keep children and young people safe from suicide. And above all else, we’re here. We’re always here. That’s how we save lives.

Story

I lost my 23 year old son Toby to suicide in 2011. It was a complete shock and I had no idea suicide is the leading cause of death in the UK for young men.

In 2016 on my 60th birthday I did this trek and raised over £3,000 for PAPYRUS.

In 2026 I’m doing the same on my 70th birthday in memory of Toby and to help to prevent young suicide, which is preventable with the right intervention.

PAPYRUS is the national charity for the Prevention of Young Suicide.

Suicide is the biggest killer of young people under the age of 35 in the UK, every year over 1800 young people take their own lives. PAPYRUS provides confidential support and advice to young people struggling with thoughts of suicide, and anyone worried about a young person through their helpline, HOPELINE247.

Every £15 raised can contribute towards a life-saving contact to HOPELINE247. Your donations really are changing lives, thank you.
