Anne's 50 peaks challenge for Bone Cancer Research Trust

50 Peaks in 50 weeks above 500m · 1 September 2024
My lovely mum had been having pain in her leg for months and was getting worse as time passed. We all thought is was arthritis and so did her doctor, thinking she may need a new knee. But my mum was insistent that it wasn't her knee as the pain was higher. Two years later, after a pain injection made things worse, an xray was ordered and thankfully a consultant saw a tiny shadow and ordered more tests. This was April 2021 and mum didn't get out of hospital until October that year. She had bone cancer which had taken most of the thigh bone and a sarcoma had grown into her thigh muscle. It's been a long road to mobilize after a knee, thigh bone and half hip replacement. But she is making the best of things. The lungs is where it is now but not affecting things at the moment.
Enjoying life is the plan 😊
Along with this I am doing:
The Bone Cancer Research Trust is dedicated to saving lives & improving outcomes for people affected by primary bone cancer. Despite being small, they fund more research projects exploring primary bone cancer than any other organisation. Other large UK cancer research charities do not prioritise bone cancer patients, in 2019 just 0.028% of their research spend went to bone cancer – not even close to 1%!
Last year alone, Bone Cancer Research Trust committed an incredible £807,824 to pioneering bone cancer research - to save lives!
