Story
10km will be the longest I’ve walked since being diagnosed with multiple myeloma (a form of incurable blood cancer) in 2022. My initial treatment involved radiotherapy to my left hip, followed by hip surgery, to enable me to walk without crutches. 🎉 When the myeloma became active again in 2023, after a small spine surgery & back brace and a few months of induction chemotherapy, I had a stem cell transplant in June 2024. Since then I’ve been on maintenance chemo, to help extend my remission for as long as possible.
I’m extremely grateful for all the amazing research into new treatments, including into CAR-T cells, which is likely to be my next line of treatment when the myeloma becomes active again. My husband Si, our two young girls and I are walking along with my amazing CNS team, some other myeloma patients and supporters, to help raise money to fund this life-saving research. We’re looking forward to the challenge!
Blood Cancer UK and the Matthew Wilson Multiple Myeloma fund have a shared ambition to cure multiple myeloma.
Through investing in science and scientists this fund will improve treatments, survival rates and quality of life for people living with multiple myeloma and drive forward the day when we find a cure.
On 20 September 2025, our amazing team will be trekking a half marathon route through the scenic countryside of West Sussex, all in support of the Matthew Wilson Multiple Myeloma Fund. Together, we can walk towards the day we find a cure.
