Ant's IRONMAN fundraiser for Penhaligon's Friends

IRONMAN Thun (Switzerland) · 7 July 2024
I will be attempting to complete the full distance IRONMAN competition in Thun, Switzerland on July 7th 2024.
For those of you who are in the dark about the mysterious world of triathlons (as I was not too long ago), a full IRONMAN triathlon event consists of three parts;
Swim 2.6 Miles (3800m)
Bike 112 Miles (180km)
Run 26.2 Miles (42km)
As a short backstory, I have no background in triathlon racing and have only participated in one triathlon event as part of my training - this challenge is a first for me and a huge undertaking. I have also never entered or completed a marathon.
I want to challenge myself and raise money for a small charity in Cornwall, that supports bereaved children, young people, parents, and carers.
Their work is extremely important in that it allows a safe environment for children to grieve and allow grief as a whole to become normalised, as well as providing support to anyone who is affected by grief.
Knowing that charities like Penhaligon's friends exist gives me hope for children and young people that so badly need support in the most difficult times in their life, when they lose loved ones.
I have personally been affected by grief, first losing an uncle, and then my father when I was 15 years old.
On the 18th May 2021 my life was turned upside down. My sister, Su, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away. Raising money for such a worthwhile charity is very close to my heart for these reasons.
My sister left behind four incredible children who continue to live with their father just outside of Barcelona. She grew up with me and my two other sisters in Cornwall, UK and was married in Porthpean Church in St Austell before moving to Spain in 2006.
Thanks for listening to a small part of my story, and well done if you've read this far, you're awesome! Now please donate to this wonderful cause and support me as I find out what I'm capable of on July 7th x
