Story
It's been two years since you amazing people raised over £16,000 for The Alzheimer's Society and the original crew couldn't have thanked you enough. So I thought this year why not do it all over again so this August a smaller team, some old faces some new will be heading back to beautiful gods country and doing it all again but not in canoes this time, oh no! This time we're doing it in Pack Rafts!
Help Us Fight Alzheimer's with an Epic Pack Rafting Adventure!
Hi everyone,
We're thrilled to announce that on August 24th, 2024, we'll be embarking on an incredible journey to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society. Over the span of one week, we will be taking on the breathtaking Loch Shiel Circuit in Scotland. This isn't just any adventure; it's a pack rafting trip that will push our limits and allow us to experience the raw beauty of the Scottish Highlands—all while supporting a cause that is very close to our hearts.
The Challenge: Loch Shiel Circuit
The Loch Shiel Circuit is an iconic route in Scotland, spanning approximately 65 kilometers (40 miles) of stunning landscapes and challenging terrains. This journey will take us through a mix of paddling and trekking, offering a unique perspective of one of Scotland's most picturesque areas. Here's what the adventure entails:
Loch Shiel: Starting from the northern end of Loch Shiel, we'll paddle through this magnificent freshwater loch, surrounded by rugged hills and ancient woodlands. Loch Shiel is known for its tranquil waters and breathtaking vistas, providing the perfect backdrop to start our journey.
Glenfinnan: As we reach the head of the loch, we'll pass through Glenfinnan, famous for its viaduct and historic monument commemorating the Jacobite Rising of 1745. This area is steeped in history and will be a poignant reminder of Scotland's rich cultural heritage.
River Finnan and River Callop: Following the loch, we'll navigate through the River Finnan and River Callop. These rivers offer a mix of calm waters and thrilling rapids, making for an exhilarating paddling experience. The surrounding landscapes of dense forests and towering mountains will make this section truly unforgettable.
Loch Eilt: After the rivers, we'll portage to Loch Eilt, another serene and scenic loch. The tranquility here is palpable, with small islets and lush greenery creating a peaceful environment. This part of the route will allow us to catch our breath and take in the natural beauty around us.
Final Stretch to Loch Moidart: The final stretch involves paddling through the smaller lochs and waterways leading to Loch Moidart. This area is known for its stunning sunsets and diverse wildlife, including otters and eagles. The journey will culminate in a triumphant arrival at the end of the circuit, completing a week-long adventure filled with unforgettable moments.
