I’m running the Sussex marathon in Eastbourne on March 8th. http://www.endurancelife.com/sussex

I chose to support the Lyme Resource Centre because of my father’s long and continuous battle with Lyme disease.

When I was younger, I distinctly remember playing outside with my father and brother in the middle of summer. A few days later, to my father’s horror, he discovered multiple ticks embedded in his skin, surrounded by large red rings. The main issues were that the ticks had remained in his skin for too long and were infected with Lyme disease.

In the following weeks, he became seriously ill, experiencing symptoms such as nausea, heart palpitations, and difficulty breathing. Unfortunately, his treatment was delayed, and he didn’t begin antibiotics until several weeks later. By then, his symptoms had only worsened. For three years, he went on and off antibiotics, however even after stopping medication, he continues to suffer daily. The worst part is he will never fully recover because the bacteria was left untreated for so long.

To this day, he struggles most with chronic fatigue, he was always active and often tells us that what he misses most from before he became ill was running. Therefore he inspired me to not take my health for granted and participate in this marathon.

With reported cases of Lyme disease increasing in the UK every year, I am raising money for the Lyme Resource Centre to help spread awareness about prevention, proper tick removal, and the importance of early treatment whilst the disease is still curable. I also hope to support research into finding a long-term cure for Lyme disease.

The marathon itself is located along the eastern side if the Sussex South Downs and has a gruelling total elevation of 1600m, however if the weather is nice there is potential for some stunning views!
