Story
Wales Air Ambulance serves the communities of Wales with 24/7 lifesaving support, 365 days a year. The service costs 11.2 million a year to remain operational and relies entirely on donations to keep its helicopters in the air and rapid response vehicles on the road.
Rowers from Llandaff Rowing Club are rowing 5369k, the distance of the Atlantic from Cardiff to New York, to raise funds for Wales Air Ambulance.
Many of the rowers at the club have been affected by Wales Air Ambulance. A helicopter crew saved a family member’s life in 2018 following their collapse on rural farmland in mid Wales. The attending crew were able to reach the location, stabilise and rapidly transport to hospital. A land based crew also attended to a traumatic leg injury suffered by another family member in 2023.
Over the coming weeks, rowers will be clocking up the kilometres using both indoor erg rowing machines and rowing on the river Taff. This will be physically and mentally challenging, but we will draw on our resilience training, fantastic coaching, and crew spirit to support each other and make the distance! We aim to complete the challenge in approximately 6-8 weeks. We will be posting updates along the way to let you know how we are getting on. Your encouragement, support and consideration of a donation are greatly appreciated and a huge source of motivation for our crews.
It feels a privilege to have a service and expertise available to provide lifesaving treatment in our greatest moments of need here in Wales. Let’s protect Wales Air Ambulance and show our support.
Thank you/Diolch.
