A voluntary uniformed youth organisation, open to all young people aged 10 to 18. At Shirley we aim to give young people an experience that will help them grow into the person they want to be in a safe and friendly environment. Through various activities and adventures, we learn teamwork, respect, loyalty, self-confidence, commitment, self-discipline, honesty and how to be the best version of ourselves.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am taking part in a white collar boxing event on the 13th April this year.

I've never really thought about doing boxing but I wanted to try something that was out of my depth and I would need to work for, so here I am.

I have chosen Shirley Sea Cadets for my just giving page because:

Sea Cadets helped me as I was growing up by giving me many life skills and experiences. It is a charity that does a lot for young people and they are inclusive and supportive. Sea Cadets take onboard helping young people with skills such as communication, dedication, and self discipline and widening their view points, all in a fun and enjoyable way.

In my time as a cadet I grew my passion for water sports, from just having experience in kayaking and sailing I grew to learn, enjoy and develop my skills in many more types of water sports such as powerboating. I was also lucky to attend Adventure Training weekends with multiple activities including mountain biking, hill walking and camping skills. These physical sports naturally developed my social skills, communication and confidence.

The Sea Cadets encouraged me to want to become a Paddlesports Instructor which I achieved in 2022 and a Dinghy Instructor which I achieved in 2023. As a Dinghy and Paddle sports Instructor I am able to teach sailing, paddle boarding, kayak and canoe sessions with the Cadets as a Civilian Instructor as well as being a safety boat driver.

I am setting up this page to give back something to my unit as I've enjoyed and developed through cadets and want to pass on the opportunity for the experiences to others.

All donations will go directly do the charity.
