My Reasons for running and raising money for alzheimers and dimetia.

Research is our only chance to change the ending for people living with dementia—people like my nan, Rose, and my best friend’s mum, Mary.

I’m running this marathon in their honour. Both Rose and Mary were diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and spent their final years slowly losing memories, forgetting the people they loved, and often feeling afraid.

But they were so much more than a diagnosis. They were wives, mams, nans, friends—strong women who were the heart beat of their families. Their loss left an empty space and a profound mark on all of us.

My nan Rose was a force of nature. She worked tirelessly her whole life, caring for her family, creating a home, and making sure we never went without. She made Sundays special, Christmases magical, and filled our lives with celebrations and memories we’ll treasure forever. Caring for others was who she was, and she would have hated knowing that she would one day need that same care herself.

Mary lived her life for her boys. She loved telling stories—especially about their dad’s mishaps—and her contagious laugh filled every room as she shared funny moments and family history. She did this until she no longer could, leaving a huge void in the hearts of those who loved her most.

I’m running so that fewer families have to lose precious time, memories, and loved ones. I’m running so that no one has to watch their loved ones slowly disappear before their eyes.

I’m running for longer, fuller lives.

I’m running for more time.

I’m running for more memories.
