Story

Hi, I’m a ST4 Emergency Medicine Registrar in the Severn Deanery, and I chose this year to run a marathon despite never running a half before!

Well that’s not totally true, like many of us I went a bit mad in lockdown and a 5km run turned into a half marathon… unsurprisingly I was horrendously ill and was put to bed by 4pm.

After vowing to never run far again I thought a half marathon; let alone a marathon was off the cards. Therefore, I’m probably the most surprised I’m attempting this.

Why then? Well a few reasons. Firstly, I’m 33 and last cricket season I started to feel every day of that 33 years. Running after the ball felt like I was towing several caravans!

Secondly, a challenge during winter; I needed something to focus on. Being a full time trainee is difficult. Balancing everything is almost impossible. So I thought why not throw in loads of running!

Thirdly and finally a chance to be one of those guys who raises a bit of money for a good cause. Never done it. The Royal College of Emergency Medicine does lots of great work for patients and for doctors alike.

So join me on my journey, follow me on Strava and send me some kudos!

The journey starts properly at the Bath Half marathon 17th March, my first race day!
