North Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team are all unpaid volunteers, trained to the highest standards to rescue lost or injured people, both on and off the moor. They are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.

Story

I’m taking on the Great West Run Half Marathon to raise money for North Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team who are an incredible group of volunteers who give their time, energy, and expertise to help people in need across Dartmoor and beyond.

Living so close to Dartmoor, I know how beautiful but unpredictable it can be. More and more people are turning to the outdoors as an escape from modern stresses and to support their mental health and wellbeing, something that I believe is hugely positive, but it also means more people exploring remote areas, sometimes without experience or preparation. North Dartmoor Search and Rescue are there to make sure that when things don’t go to plan, help is never far away.

Their work is especially important for young people discovering the outdoors, giving families reassurance that there is a skilled and dedicated team ready to respond if needed. Whether it’s lost walkers, injured runners, ten tors teams, missing vulnerable people, or emergencies in challenging conditions, they are always ready, day or night.

To be honest I don’t like running very much, which makes this even more of a challenge for me! 21k will be the longest distance I’ve ever run, so just getting to the start line will be a big one for me. Crossing the finish line will be even bigger. Knowing I’m supporting such an important cause will keep me going every step of the way.

Dartmoor Rescue rely entirely on donations to keep going, funding vital equipment, training, and operational costs.

I’m aiming to raise £300, and every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a real difference and help ensure the team can continue their lifesaving work.

Thank you so much for your support — it truly means a lot! Wish me luck!
