Rat Race Castle to Castle 100 mile Ultra Marathon · 19 July 2025

Founded in memory of Russ Devereux, the Headlight Project aims to reduce the number of deaths by suicide in the Tees Valley through therapy of those bereaved by suicide, and preventative education and training.

Story

On 19th July 2025, I’ll be running* (walking, hobbling and crawling if needed) 100 miles from Bamburgh Castle to Edinburgh Castle as part of the Rat Race Castle to Castle Ultra in one go (hopefully in under 30 hours) – all to raise vital funds for the incredible Headlight Project.

This amazing local charity provides specialist counselling, trauma support, and suicide prevention education to children, families, and individuals across our region. Their impact has been felt in our school and many others, supporting people through the most difficult of times.

Having previously run 70 miles along Hadrian’s Wall, this felt like the natural next challenge (although it definitely seemed like a better idea a year ago!). The timing means I’ll be running the day after we break up for summer… so hopefully there’s time to recover!

Every donation helps the Headlight Project continue their life-changing work. Thank you for your support. 💛
