Story
The Doko race was introduced in 1989, is regarded as a righteous passage that all the Gurkhas must go through to be selected for the British Army. It signals a pivotal moment during the selection procedure when individuals are tested to their limits. The young hopefuls are challenged with a gruelling course in the foothills of the Himalayas carrying a Doko, held in place with a head strap loaded with 25kg. All participants must complete the 5km climb.
On Wednesday 25th Oct 2023, ATC (P) will be taking part in the DOKO RACE in Army Training Centre, Pirbright.
We have pledged to fundraise £800, which will help give Gurkha veterans and their families in Nepal the means to live with dignity.
With your help, The Gurkha Welfare Trust pays Welfare Pensions to veterans who put their lives on the line to fight for Great Britain, and provides medical treatment at home for veterans and widows living in the remotest villages in Nepal. They also improve the lives of communities in Nepal, constructing new water systems to bring clean water to thousands of doorsteps, and rebuilding schools which in turn give Nepali children the education they deserve.
The event is organised by Antim Gurung, Som Bahadur Magar, Dijay Rai and Bikram Maden.
"Dhanyabad" (Thank you) in advance for your support!
