Story

I’m really proud to have been selected by LOROS to take on the London Marathon 2026, and to be raising money for a cause that’s so important to me and close to my heart.

LOROS cares for more than 2,500 terminally ill patients and their families across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland each year. My Mum Bozena was 1 of them. She spent 1 week in the hospice in 2024 until she passed away there on the 27th July.

I witnessed first hand the unbelievable care they provided to my Mum, from the minute she moved in there she was treated with the upmost dignity. Furthermore the support LOROS provided to me and my family at such a difficult time was so important to us and I'll remember it for the rest of my life.

I started running during lockdown in 2020, running up and down the family garden building up to running 5k and beyond. Taking on the London Marathon is the ultimate challenge to take on after 5 years. I will be working hard to do my best to complete it and in the best possible time.

I did not realise LOROS relied completely on donations until I experienced myself what a wonderful place it is

LOROS is unfortunately experiencing a funding shortfall - resulting in a cut to the number of patient beds, reduced day therapy - which is vital for isolated patients and cuts to physiotherapy, occupational therapy, social work, chaplaincy and complementary therapies. The hospice is doing less not because they want to, not because they've lost commitment - but because they can no longer afford to.

£6 could pay for meals for a patient for a day.

£11 could pay for collection of a patient from home for day therapy.

£27 could pay for an hour of specialist palliative nursing care.

£1310 could pay for the running of the Hospice for an hour.

Every pound donated makes a massive difference and ensures you'll be a part of this amazing places future. Any donations are massively appreciated, thanks so much everyone.
