Story
I’m fundraising once again for the amazing Bay Area Girls Rock Camp, an organization that gives girls and gender-expansive youth the chance to build confidence, creativity, community, and self-expression through music.
This cause is especially personal to me because I was one of those girls who loved rock and roll but was too intimidated to fully participate in it. I didn’t start playing guitar or performing in bands until my 30s, when I finally pushed through years of fear, impostor syndrome, and stage fright to start my own band. Even now, those feelings still creep in sometimes.
I often think about how different things might have felt if I’d had a supportive, encouraging space like Girls Rock Camp when I was younger, a place where girls are taught not only that they can make noise, take up space, and be creative, but that they absolutely belong there.
Over the years, I’ve also had the privilege of working with youth music programs and mentoring young musicians, and I’ve seen firsthand how transformative these experiences can be.
As a small thank-you for supporting my fundraiser, I’ll also be bringing back my homemade “Girls Rock” cookie boxes in a very limited batch this year for donors contributing $100 or more.
Thank you so much for supporting this incredible organization and for helping young people find their voices sooner than I did!
