Story
Dressed in our ‘festive best’ we’ll descend the monstrous MODA building in Leeds which stands at a whopping 148ft tall this December!
Why?! This thrilling event will raise life-saving funds for our world-class Leeds Congenital Heart Unit, patients with CHD in our region and their families.
My story...
My name is Arabiya Abu-bakr, I'm 13 years old and 11 years ago at 2 years old I was diagnosed with Long QT Syndrome this is a heart condition which affects my hearts electrical activity. My dad passed away 12 years ago from this condition and I want to make sure children can get the help they need so they can live long and do good. Late last year I had a surgery to insert a small device next to my heart to be able to record any sort of episodes that may occur. This is the NHS definition: Long QT syndrome is an inherited heart problem that affects how your heart beats. In some people, this can cause fainting or fits (seizures). Living with this condition stops me from many things but I am happy with the things I can do like this abseil! I am excited to see how it goes and see how much money I can raise for children like me that need potentially life saving surgery to give them a better chance at a bright future 😊
Did you know that sadly 1 person dies every 3 minutes in the UK due to heart related complications.
