Story
In February 2026, Dan will take on the Montane Arctic Spine, a grueling non-stop 293-mile (472 km) expedition race along the Kungsleden Trail in Arctic Sweden. Starting at Abisko and finishing at Hemavan, he will navigate snowfields, frozen woodlands, and Arctic tundra, often breaking trail through one of the world’s most breathtaking but harsh winter landscapes.
This is not just a race; it is a test of ultimate endurance and survival. Dan will face temperatures as low as -40°C, winds up to 40 mph, and whiteout conditions while relying entirely on his own skill and self-sufficiency. The Arctic Spine is one of the toughest races on the planet, demanding extraordinary grit, determination, and expertise in extreme cold-weather navigation and survival.
The Last 18 Months: Building Strength and Resilience
Dan's journey to this point has been forged through relentless challenges and crucial learning experiences:
- April 2024: Brighton to London 100k Run
- May 2024: Summit of Denali
- July 2024: Summit of Mont Blanc
- September 2024: Ironman Wales
- October 2024: Kent Ultra 50k (2nd place)
- December 2024: South Downs 100 Miler
- February 2025: Chester 100 Miler
- June 2025: Alpamayo expedition, Peru (no summit)
- July 2025: Ridge climbing in the Alps
- September 2025: Ironman Wales
Not every attempt was flawless; some summits were left unconquered and some races did not go to plan, but every step strengthened Dan's physical abilities and mental toughness. High-altitude climbs taught him to perform in oxygen-thin, freezing conditions. Ultra-distance races prepared him to endure sleep deprivation, hunger, and fatigue. Alpine ridge climbing sharpened his technical skills on snow and ice. Ironman competitions built resilience across multiple disciplines.
He has learned that setbacks are part of progress, not failure, and that turning back when conditions demand it is wisdom, not defeat.
What Lies Ahead
The Montane Arctic Spine is the ultimate test, combining everything Dan has trained for: 293 miles across frozen wilderness, fully self-supported, navigating blindly through whiteouts, battling the cold, and pushing through exhaustion. It is brutal by design, and Dan is ready for it.
Your support means the world to him as he takes on this extraordinary challenge.
