Arctic Challenge for Liberate Jersey

Arctic Ice Climb · 15 February 2025
Too Long Didn't Read: I'm raising money for Liberate Jersey for the simple reason of believing and supporting diversity and equality. I'll be climbing the biggest ice wall in Finland.
I believe that we all deserve equality and to be treated with dignity and respect. From neanderthals and homosapiens ‘getting to know’ each other in Le Cote, to Vikings leaving behind more than just place names - Jersey has historically drawn diverse people in as a beautiful safe haven.
Unfortunately for some, our Island is no longer looking or feeling as safe as it did. Over the last year, months and now weeks I've noticed a rise of intolerance, prejudice and discrimination in local and social media.
I feel that as a society, we should not tolerate, excuse or ignore the intolerant. Doing so could risk the rights of everyone, leaving us all worse off.
We have a duty to challenge hatred and intolerance, to call it out and stand with those who are facing marginalisation.
Having already planned this as a personal challenge, I decided to make this a fundraiser to support Liberate and the work that they do building a more inclusive society.
Although I have completed similar challenges for other charities before, this brings some completely new elements for me including snow shoeing and ice climbing (which will be interesting given I’m not entirely sure of my tolerance for heights…)
And to cap it off, I’m also recovering from two recent training injuries!
If I can snow shoe through the Sapmi Arctic region and climb the largest ice wall in Finland, facing these elements, then I hope you can a) support me by donating in support and b) challenge intolerance next time you see it.
