Arniston fundraising for Sunflower Scotland

Fettes College Charitable Fundraising is raising money for Sunflower Scotland
Our mission is to help the most vulnerable people in Ukraine's frontline villages. Women, children, disabled and older people need our help more than anyone else. We buy food in Ukraine, rather than sending it from the UK. This way we support the local economy. We have a permanent team in Kharkiv, and we cover areas near the north-eastern front.

Story

Arniston will be running 5, 10km and 21km on Sunday 23rd March. Please do motivate us by showing your support for a really important cause. Sunflower Scotland have let us know that our donation will go towards the purchase of an NHS ambulance in Wales that they are hoping to drive to Kherson in April: thank you so much for your support.

All parts of Ukraine have suffered from the ongoing war. Large cities such as Kyiv, Kherson, Kharkiv are shown in media coverage but often, there is little focus on frontline villages. Sunflower Scotland visit these villages several times per month and their support adapts based on these visits so that they can help residents with what they need.

Why do people remain in frontline villages? Often because of extreme poverty, pride in their home town, family ties and the sense of belonging to their home. Sunflower Scotland buys food in Ukraine and distribute it for free in frontline villages to vulnerable people: women with children, disabled and older people. Buying food in Ukraine helps support the local economy and enables the charity to reach those at need, more efficiently. The charity also deliver medical equipment and supplies to frontline and rural hospitals and deliver donated clothes. It also helps support two rehabilitation centres, for wounded men and women in Ukraine.

Arniston chose this charity as we believe that Sunflower Scotland are working with some of the forgotten victims of this war, in areas that other NGO's do not operate in, due to safety concerns. We have previous connections with this charity and would like to support their work in Ukraine.
