Arran's fundraiser for 17th West Lothian Scout Group

Arran Barrie is raising money for 17th West Lothian Scout Group

Dundee Kiltwalk 2026 · 16 August 2026 ·

As Scouts, we believe in preparing young people with skills for life. We encourage young people to do more, learn more and be more. Each week, we help over 460,000 young people nationwide aged 6-25 enjoy fun and adventure while developing the skills they need to succeed, now and in the future.

Story

I'm part of a group of 36 Explorer Scouts selected to head off to Poland for the 26th World Scout Jamboree in July 2027. I've to find the £4000 to go as it's to be raised by fundraising, not just parents paying it. A big part of the £4000 for each of the 36 of us goes to help scouts from countries, where the cost would be a barrier to them going.

I'm walking the Kiltwalk with two of my friends, Zoe and Matthew. We met at our training camps and we can't wait to travel to Poland together.

I'm just back from a 403 mile cycle, from Broxburn to climb Ben Wyvis, NW of Inverness and then home again. My friend couldn't make it at the last minute, so I went on my own. No tent, just a bivvy bag and as I was too young to stay in a campsite alone, I wild camped next to campsites, so could sneak in for a shower. I'm not sure mum slept much whilst I was away, but I made it home safe! It was a last minute thing and I should have looked for sponsorship for that trip, so if you sponsor me for the Kiltwalk, it's kinda for both trips, so thank you!

The World Scout Jamboree will see around 50,000 scouts, aged 14-17 from over 200 countries camp together for 10 days, sharing traditions, customs, foods, etc., whilst taking part in a host of activities and cultural trips. It's the pinnacle of scouting and happens every four years, meaning you only get one chance to go. My brother went to WSJ25 in South Korea and my dad went to WSJ16 in Australia sometime last century! It's my turn and I'm seriously excited!

Thanks to reading and if you are able to help me, I'd really appreciate it!
