Story
I am inviting donations after completing the London to Brighton cycle.
I was inspired by my friend Nigel Burton and his son Jack to use the ride to raise awareness and funds for Teenage Cancer Trust. If you are able to donate even a little amount then please do so.
Nigel's son, Jack, was diagnosed with bone cancer shortly before his 18th birthday in 2023.
Doctors told the family that Jack needed a massive operation to remove the bone in his lower left leg and replace it with a donor bone.
Then he faced many months of gruelling chemotherapy in hospital.
Through it all, Jack and his family had the support of a specialist cancer nurse funded by the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Nigel explained: "As a parent there can be few things more frightening than to be told your child has cancer.
"Most of us think of cancer as something you get when you are older, but here in the UK the parents of seven young people get the news that their child has cancer every single day. That's a lot of young people suffering from cancer and the numbers are growing.
"At the current rate, by 2030 ten young people will get a cancer diagnosis every day."
Jack has now finished his treatment and his cancer in remission. He is heading going to university.
Teenage Cancer Trust is the charity of the year for Newsquest, parent company of The Argus.
