As a father, it is difficult for me to imagine anything more heartbreaking than a child being forced to leave their home, separated from the life they knew, or having to hide in a shelter.

For me, this is also deeply personal.

In 2022, my wife and our two young sons had to leave Ukraine and cross the border into Poland to find safety, while I stayed behind. We were separated for more than three years.

I was incredibly fortunate that my family eventually found safety, but many children and families in Ukraine and around the world continue to face unimaginable circumstances. They need protection, education, stability and, above all, hope.

That is why I have chosen to support Save the Children by running the Bury BID 10k.

I’m also very grateful that my colleague Tamsin will be running alongside me and raising money for the same cause. As a mum to twins, supporting a charity dedicated to protecting children and giving them the best possible chance in life is something that means a great deal to her too.

We are both part of the team at Specscart, and the company has generously committed to matching the money we raise. That means every donation made through this fundraiser will have twice the impact in supporting children who need it most.

Save the Children works to help vulnerable children survive, learn and stay protected, wherever the need is greatest.

For both of us, taking on this challenge is about doing something positive for children and families facing circumstances no parent should ever have to experience.

Every donation, no matter how small, can help provide essential support and give a child the chance to look towards a safer and brighter future.
