Story

Hi, I’m Ashleigh 👋🏼

If you don’t know me, I’m 29 (nearly 30 😰) and a mum of two!

During lockdown I got into the best shape of my life. I lost just over 4 stone and was the fittest I had ever been. Then I decided to start a family, and from there I slowly let that part of me slip away.

Exercise has never really come naturally to me. I live with a heart condition (pulmonary stenosis), which makes things a little harder and means I fatigue quite quickly. But I’ve never let this stop me and I don’t plan to start now.

So you might ask… why have I decided to do this!? 😂

Firstly, I want to do something for myself this year. Something to work towards, something to stay motivated for, and something that truly pushes me out of my comfort zone.

I’m also doing this in memory of my late uncle, Paul Dourish.

Paul suffered a sudden brain aneurysm that changed everything. Losing him was devastating, especially knowing how full of life and energy he was.

Paul truly lived life to the fullest. He was endlessly active, hiking, climbing, cycling, exploring, and always outdoors. If there was an adventure to be had, Paul was there. He loved being in nature and made the most of every opportunity to get outside and move.

Paul also had a wonderful sense of humour and a way of making people laugh without even trying. He was kind, supportive, and deeply loved by everyone who knew him. He built a happy life in Ireland with his family, and those close to him know just how special he was.

I’m doing this because it reflects the kind of person Paul was, strong, determined, adventurous, and always up for a challenge. Every muddy mile, every obstacle, and every ache will be for him and his family.

If you’re able, please consider donating. All donations will be made to Brainkind in Paul’s honour.

Thank you so much for your support and see you at the finish line 🏁
