Running in Memory of Mum: Supporting the Fight Against MND

Cardiff Half Marathon 2025 · 5 October 2025 · Start fundraising for this event
In June 2022, I lost my mum to Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Watching her battle this terrible illness was one of the hardest things I’ve ever experienced. MND gradually stripped away everything she loved doing, from walking and speaking, to the ability to even lift a cup of tea. Over time, her body was taken from her, and it was heartbreaking to see someone so full of life and energy lose their independence so quickly.
The impact of MND is profound. It affects every aspect of life. Mum could no longer do the things she enjoyed, gardening, chatting with friends, or simply taking care of herself. As the disease progressed, she relied more and more on us for support, and the emotional toll on the whole family was huge.
But despite all of this, Mum faced each day with strength and grace. She never gave up, and that courage is what inspires me to take on the Cardiff Half Marathon this year. I’m running to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA), a charity that supported us during Mum’s illness and is doing essential work in the fight against MND.
The MNDA is funding critical research into the causes of MND, as well as providing support and advice to families affected by it. Their work is invaluable, and I want to help ensure they can continue making a difference for those currently living with MND, and in the hope that one day, a cure will be found.
Running this half marathon is a way for me to honour my mum’s memory and raise funds to help others affected by this devastating disease. I’m asking for your support in donating to this cause. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, will help fund research and provide vital care and support to families facing the challenges that come with MND.
Thank you for helping me make a difference and for supporting this important cause.
