Story
My Dad, Gary, wasn’t just my Dad, he was everything to us and to all those that new him. Strong, funny, stubborn in all the best ways… and someone we never imagined we would lose so quickly.
When he was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour, our world changed overnight. In just six months, he was gone.
Those final weeks are something I’ll carry with me forever, but so is the incredible care we received from the Hospice at Home team at Garden House Hospice Care.
They didn’t just come in and “do a job.” They became part of our family at the hardest time of our lives. They cared for Dad with such dignity and compassion, but they also looked after Mum, supported all of us and even made time for Dad’s beloved dog, Brin. I’ll never forget one of the healthcare assistants sitting with him for ages, just making sure he was okay too. That’s the kind of care they give it goes far beyond what you would expect.
Over the years, other people we love have also been cared for by the hospice. It’s one of those places you hope you never need but when you do, it means everything.
That’s why this matters so much to me.
In April 2026, I’ll be taking on the London Landmarks Half Marathon and then, just two weeks later, the London Marathon. It’s going to be tough, up their with my toughest challenges! But it feels like nothing compared to what Dad went through, and what so many families are facing right now.
I’m doing this in memory of Dad, and to give something back to the hospice that gave us so much when we needed it most.
Right now, Garden House Hospice Care is facing a serious funding crisis. They rely heavily on donations to continue providing this level of care in our community.
If you can support me, no matter how big or small, you’ll be helping ensure other families get the same compassion, dignity and support that meant everything to us.
Thank you so much for reading and for your support 💚
