108 sun salutations · 22 June 2024

Our aim is to preserve and protect good health of people suffering from Aspergillosis by: - • Raising awareness of aspergillosis and increase the understanding of the condition amongst medical professionals and the public at large; • Supporting sufferers globally by providing information and creating real and virtual support networks for sufferers of the most common forms of the disease; • Circulating up-to-date information about the condition with all forms of aspergillosis and help them understand the disease and treatments; • Raising funds for research, with the aim of making aspergillosis far more readily recognisable than at present; • Via joint initiatives, educate healthcare professionals of the symptoms and treatment of aspergillosis as it is often missed and can take years to reach the correct diagnosis; and • Represent aspergillosis patients in wider lung health networks.

Story

Hi! We're Jen & Jo, friends and scientists working on Aspergillus, a deadly fungus that causes aspergillosis, a respiratory disease that makes it difficult to breathe. Six years ago Jen launched her citizen science campaign to sample Aspergillus across the UK, and this is how she met Jill Fairweather, and how we started to work together.

Jill was one of the co-founders of the Aspergillosis Trust (https://www.aspergillosistrust.org), which helps raise awareness of this disease. Jill was asthmatic from childhood, and diagnosed with aspergillosis at an early age.

Jill was one of the kindest people you could ever meet, and was one of our biggest cheerleaders when it came to our research. Unfortunately, Jill lost her battle to aspergillosis at the end of May this year; even up until the week before her passing she was still asking how she could help!

So we want to do something special for Jill, to honour her memory and thank her for all her hard work on raising awareness of aspergillosis, and to raise money to support the Aspergillosis Trust in their work.

The vision of Aspergillosis Trust is to achieve the best outcomes for all aspergillosis patients, until such time as a cure can be found. We have an aspiration to support research into the disease and mycology generally that can help improve health outcomes for patients. We will work towards this by:

⭐️Raising awareness of aspergillosis amongst the general public.

⭐️Finding ways to ensure patients get the best possible information to help them manage the illness.

⭐️Increase the understanding of the condition amongst medical professionals.

Jo is a qualified yoga teacher and in her spare time loves to teach! Join Jo & Jen on 22nd June, six years since Jen launched her citizen science campaign and met Jill, to take part in 108 sun salutations under the guidance of Jo.

Why 108 sun salutations? It's traditional on the summer solstice to practice 108 sun salutations. This will be an led online session with lots of variations suitable for all levels, with options for rest throughout. There will also be an extended Savasana at the end.
