Story
Hi, I’m Iram! I’ve been running for around 5 years now and I love it, especially when running for such a worthy cause! I’m excited to be running the Marrakech Half Marathon in just under two weeks, representing my run club, ASRA Club, and I’m grateful for any donations you can give, your support means a lot!
The conflict in Sudan has escalated into one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, displacing millions and reducing cities, homes, and lives to rubble. Since April 2023, more than 7.4 million people—one in every eight people in Sudan—have been forced to flee their homes, with many seeking refuge with relatives, in temporary camps under horrific conditions, or across borders where life is equally harsh.
Over the past year, the war has spread across the country, creating what is now the world’s largest displacement crisis. According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the armed conflict has displaced an estimated 14 million people, 53% of whom are children. Many are living in temporary camps where conditions are abysmal.
Around 27,000 people are confirmed killed, but the real death toll is likely to be much higher as fatalities are believed to be underreported and the death toll from hunger, disease and lack of basic services could rise far higher.
About ASRA Club:
ASRA Club is a sports organisation and community space that centres Muslim women in movement, wellness and sisterhood. Founded in 2019, we have a community in the UK and The Gambia. ASRA Club's aim is to unlock the inner athlete by nurturing a safe space and creating an environment to support spiritual, physical and mental health and wellbeing. ASRA Club’s focus is on tackling the internal and external boundaries Muslim women face by acting as more than just a sports club. The forefront of our mission is ensuring that no Muslim woman has to compromise on her Iman/faith to unlock her inner athlete to its full potential. We also champion sisterhood, build safe space through the digital and physical community we have created.
