Story
I have always had a complicated history with running, especially when it comes to distances over 5km. I struggle to enjoy myself past a certain point, finding it difficult to maintain a good pace and savor the time I spend on my feet. Despite this, the thought of completing a Marathon has crossed my mind multiple times, but I have never been ready to fully commit. This year, I have finally had enough. I have set a personal goal to run the London Marathon and raise £2500 for the incredible charity, Barnardo's.
Barnardo’s is a charity close to my heart, as they work tirelessly to support and protect the most vulnerable children and young people across the UK. Their vision is to create a world where every child and young person is given the best opportunities to thrive, regardless of their background.
Training for a marathon is no easy feat, but I am determined to push myself both mentally and physically to achieve this goal. As I hit the pavement and clock up those miles, I will constantly remind myself of the incredible work that Barnardo’s does and the difference my fundraising will make.
Every penny raised will go towards supporting Barnardo’s projects and services, including their work with children and young people who have experienced abuse, neglect, poverty, and domestic violence. They also provide advocacy and support for young carers, and help young people who are leaving care to live independently.
My goal of £2500 may seem daunting, but I am confident that with the support of my friends, family, and community, we can make a real difference to the lives of children and young people in need.
My progress will be recorded on various social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook, as well as on Strava where I will share my training journey. I will also keep my followers informed of my fundraising efforts. Additionally, I have plans to engage in outdoor activities such as cycling and hiking, and I will wear my Barnardo's vest at different Parkruns every Saturday to promote the important work carried out by Barnardo's. Keep an eye on my social media updates before each weekend and feel free to join me if you are nearby and would like to participate in one of the many activities I will be involved in. Let's work together to make a positive impact!
I am appreciative of any and all contributions made towards this important cause. If you are unable to make a donation at this time, there are alternate methods in which you can assist me in reaching my objective. If possible, kindly spread the word and share my fundraising page with your loved ones - this gesture would be equally valued. Together, we can support Barnardo's in their critical efforts and provide every child and young person with the opportunity to achieve their utmost potential.
Thank you for your support and I can’t wait to cross that finish line and know that I have made a difference in the lives of vulnerable children and young people. Let’s do this!
