In memory of Ava Young

Golf - Texas Scramble · 5 September 2026

We're Children's Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS). We care for children throughout Scotland with life-shortening conditions and their families. We make sure that no matter how short their time together may be, it is filled with happiness. Even in the pain of grief, we're determined that joy lives on.

Story

Help us remember Ava. Keith (Ava's dad) is a member of West Linton Golf Club and also a Club Champion. The club are supporting a fundraising event for CHAS.

Here’s a few words from Ava’s mum Fiona:

“As a Family we were supported by CHAS /Rachel House for 13 years, when Ava was born, she had many complex health conditions which were life shortening , we were told Ava had an hour to live after she was born, but she battled on for 15 years.

We were referred to CHAS , and the initial thought was we didn’t want to use a Hospice, that soon changed when we went for our first visit , Ava couldn’t communicate but her smile said it all , we knew this was going to be Ava's happy place.

Rachel House supported us with respite care which was much needed as Ava required 24-hour care, we loved our visits as a Family and we were very well looked after, it was time for us to relax and allow the staff to take care of Ava . Ava loved her time at Rachel House taking part in all the activities and day trips, she especially loved the music therapy sessions.

Ava loved the attention from all the staff and her Diva attitude shown through seemed to always get what she wanted it was on Ava’s terms!

Keith and I were able to go and have a coffee /meal, day trips without the constant worry as we knew Ava was so well cared for.

Rachel House is for spending precious time together as a family and making memories that will last a lifetime, and we are delighted we got to spend the time making these memories.

The whole family were supported and visited us at the Hospice, sometimes the thought of a hospice is scary, and people don’t want to visit, it is full of fun and laughter and of course the sad part that no parent should ever have to face.

CHAS ambition is that no one should face the death of their child alone, Keith and I were fully supported when Ava was end of life and had the support of CHAS and the Nursing staff to support us. Ava passed in the house, we then used the rainbow room to give us longer to say our goodbyes, that whole time, family & friends had the support from CHAS, and we continue to have the support .

Without your support CHAS wouldn’t be able to offer unwavering care to the Children & families on their hardest of journeys, and families like ours wouldn’t be able to spend that precious time together.”

Thank you for your support and donation.
