Fundraising for Only A Pavement Away
Story
Avani Solutions is delighted to announce Only A Pavement Away as its charitable cause for 2023.
Only a Pavement Away was founded in 2018 to be a conduit between hospitality employers and charities working with those facing homelessness and to help people find work within the hospitality, pub, and restaurant industry.
Founder Greg Mangham:
"Imagine facing homelessness or coming out of prison in need of career support or leaving the military injured. Your confidence and self-esteem may be low. At ‘Only A Pavement Away’ we offer a pathway to a career in hospitality and wraparound support service. To a person facing or experiencing homelessness, a café, a pub, a bar, a restaurant and, crucially, a job is only a pavement away”.
Running, walking, and cycling to raise funds and awareness
Avani team members – including co-founders Amanda Thomson and Michael Harper and Account Manager Matt Russell – will take part in the OAPA London Landmarks Half Marathon in April and Pedalling 2 Pubs, a 240 km circular bike ride around the Yorkshire Wolds in June.
As well as the above activities, co-founder Michael Harper warmed up in January by running The Peddars Way Ultra (48 miles) and will be taking part in the 145-mile Grand Union Canal Race in May, followed by running in the Avani team relay at Endure24 Leeds in June.
A family loss and connecting running with mental health
Avani co-founder Michael lost his brother around five years ago and found himself trying to understand what his brother must have been going through.
It was at this point that he and Amanda started running and he says it helped him come to terms with the loss of his brother by finding a connection with him even though he was gone.
