Axe's 'Survival in the Wild' fundraiser for Albany Taxi Charity Fund

Axe Roofing is raising money for Albany Taxi Charity Fund

Survival in the Wild · 12 September 2025

Our Charity is a fund run by Licenced Hackney Carriage Taxi Drivers which was established in 1972 for Children with Special Needs from S.E London & Kent Area. We take over 300 children/carers in 100 black taxis down to Hastings for a fun day out. We also take children from Chernobyl to Herne Bay.

Story

This year Axe Roofing's challenge will be 'survival in the wild' for 24 hours in the Lake District.

The charity we have chosen to raise money for this year is the Albany Taxi Charity. The Albany Taxi Charity started in 1972 by a group of London Licensed Taxi Drivers. The Charity has been going ever since.

Their aim was to take special needs children for a day out at the seaside for some fun and laughter. The first event started as a one off to Margate with 72 children and 36 brightly decorated cabs. These Taxi Drivers started to meet regularly in premises in the Albany Road, hence the name of the charity.

Over the years the Albany Charity have taken children with special needs and their carers to places: Thorpe Park, Chessington and visits to Pantomimes. Besides outings the Albany Charity have also bought Televisions, Stereo’s, Sound Equipment, Karaoke machines, Trikes, Wheelchairs and Special Bikes for children.

Our survival challenge will begin on Friday morning where we will be taken to a starting point and have to navigate in teams to various check points. The check points will have various equipment for our survival journey. If we don't find it, we go without! After spending the night in the wilderness of the Lake District we will then have to navigate to our extraction point.
