Pakistan Alliance for Girls’ Education is dedicated to strengthen every Pakistani girl to aspire for a better future. It aims to create a future where girls are free to acquire education and lead the communities. PAGE partners with institutions and community-based organizations to provide girls facing extreme poverty and cultural barriers an access to life-changing education and this is achieved through research, advocacy and innovative programming.

Story

Muslim Colony is a colony situated nearby Bari Imam, Islamabad. It encompasses hugely deprived and vulnerable residents. There are no government schools in the proximity and the residents don’t have money to bear the cost of the education for their children.STAR School Muslim Colony is one of the first STAR schools created by PAGE. It warmly welcomes 28 girls of the colony to school. The girls who study in this school come from extremely poor backgrounds. The fathers are mostly daily wage laborers. Some of the girls even work in houses nearby as housemaids along with their mothers while some of them babysit their younger siblings even during school time. The unique thing about these girls is that they are very active in extracurricular activities and perform tremendously well in academics as well. STAR school teacher Shaista shared that the parents who have minimal income and low socio-economic opportunities send their daughters to school with great zeal. Whenever the school holds any celebration, sports activity, or extracurricular activity, the girls participate with confidence and enthusiasm.

Dua Batool is a 13-year-old that studies in STAR School Muslim Colony. She is determined, hardworking, and dreams to become a pilot one day. In a conversation, her mother shared that she was married early but dreamed of getting an education. Early marriage and lack of consistent income were the biggest obstacles in her education but she didn’t want the same for her daughter. Her husband being daily wage labor couldn’t pay the school fee. She is enormously thankful to PAGE for providing her daughter with school supplies free of cost and for delivering education to STAR school Muslim Colony where her daughter studies.

Our PAGE Ambassador Aysha Sana in England has taken the initiative to raise funds for this Star School so that girls like Dua Batool can get an education.
