Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. H.D. is a hereditary neurological disorder. It slowly deteriorates causing symptoms to progressively get worse. There is no known cure yet. Children born to a H.D. parent has a 50% chance of inheriting the condition.

My mother had H.D. and died from it. Both of my twin brothers recently died from it. My older sister is in the later stages of HD.

As some of you are aware, my previous challenges have included:

• Completing the Hadrian's Wall walk walking from the East coast to the West coast of England (84 miles/135km)

• Jumping out of a perfectly good plane at a height of 13,000 feet.

• Completing a 24-hour race with a total distance of 100km covered

• Completing the 100 mile West Highland Way walk which took me past some of the Highland’s finest scenery such as Loch Lomond, Ben Nevis and the Trossachs National Park.

This page is to raise money for the local West Midlands HD branch and the national HDA organisation. The local branch and organisation offers much needed support including financial aid to sufferers, carers, family members at risk, and all those afflicted with Huntington’s Disease.

My next few challenges will take me further and higher than ever before!

Challenge:

Completing the Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes hike in Oct 24 – We will see several of the highest mountains in the world including Mt. Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8516m), Nuptse (7861m), Makalu (8481m), Kanchenjunga (8586m) and more. We will see mountain views from Kala Patther, including Mt. Everest; the chance to see the famous Everest region and Sherpa town – Namche Bazaar, glimpses of the highest Buddhist monasteries in the world; and a preview into the inner workings of the base camp to the world’s highest mountain.

Gokyo lakes section - We will cross the Cho La, a high pass at 5,418m/17,777ft, and descend to the Gokyo Valley. Here the world's highest freshwater lake system hang like a string of pearls in a high valley sanctuary, located one above the other.

We will stay at the settlement of Gokyo set near the middle lake, Dudh Pokhari, at 4,750m/15,580ft. From here we will make the steep ascent of the peak called Gokyo Ri from which an entire panorama of summits is visible towering above the great glaciers below - Cho Oyu, Gyachung Kang, Pumori, Everest, Nuptse, Makalu, Ama Dablam, Kang Taiga, Thamserku, Khumbila, Tawoche and Cholatse. From the summit of Gokyo Ri we will have unrivalled views over the Gokyo Lakes and the Ngozumba Glacier tumbling down from Cho Oyu.
