The Barking & Dagenham Young Mayor, David Anawura, along with the Barking & Dagenham Youth Forum have committed themselves to raising money for Purple Penguins, a local charity solely dedicated to improving the lives of children with disabilities in Barking and Dagenham. Purple Penguin clubs provide onsite activities for young people and offer supported trips out giving families respite. The charity believe that encouraging independence and life skills is crucial for safety, well- being and developing confidence.

The Young Mayor and the forum will also be responsible for raising awareness of disability and the challenges young people face and felt they could lend their support to raise the charity’s profile locally.

Here’s the young people’s story:

We recognise how important providing equal access to opportunities and resources for young people with disabilities is. Our aim is to raise money to support the work of the charity to enable them to continue to provide equipment, activities and trips out for young people attending their clubs.

We will be organising various events throughout the year and hope you will support us in our efforts to raise money for this worthwhile cause.
