Story

Hi everyone,

My name is Bailey, I’m 15 years old, I live in Marton, Blackpool, and I attend St George’s School. I’m also proud to live in what many people know as one of Blackpool’s most decorated Halloween houses.

Since I was just 9 years old, I have spent every Halloween raising money for Brian House Children’s Hospice, and together we have raised around £4,000.

It all started when I asked my parents if I could raise money from our Halloween display. When my mum asked who I wanted to help, I simply said, “poorly children.” She told me about several local charities, and I chose Brian House. Looking back, I could never have imagined how much that decision would change my life.

Over the years, Brian House has become a huge part of who I am. I have met the incredible nurses, carers and staff who dedicate their lives to helping families through the most difficult times imaginable. Most importantly, I have met the children.

Some are babies, some are toddlers, and some are around my own age. Despite everything they face, they continue to smile, laugh and enjoy every moment. Meeting them has taught me more about strength, courage and happiness than I could ever put into words.

Every October, I spend weeks decorating our house and preparing treats for the hundreds of visitors who come to see us. Last year we welcomed over 500 trick-or-treaters and even ran out of treats! This year I am making even more goodies so that every child leaves with something special, including options for children who cannot eat sweets.

As I've grown older, I've come to understand just how important fundraising really is. Brian House receives only limited government funding, and every donation helps provide care, support, activities, special days out and precious memories for children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families. These are moments that many families will treasure forever.

I have been incredibly honoured to receive awards for my fundraising, including Young Achiever of the Year and a Young Citizen Award. I have appeared in local newspapers, helped open the new Brian House charity superstore and even taken part in a television documentary. But none of those things matter as much as knowing that the money raised helps children who need it most.

This year, I am asking the people of Blackpool for something very simple.

Just £1.

One pound might not seem like much. It’s less than a coffee and not much more than a chocolate bar. But if enough people give just £1, together we can make a real difference to local children and families who rely on Brian House.

If you are able to donate, thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you can't, please still come along and enjoy the display. Your support means the world to me either way.

You can find us on Vicarage Lane, opposite Little Asda and Iceland, where collection buckets will also be available on Halloween night. Donations can also be made through JustGiving, with every penny going directly to Brian House.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Together, let’s show what the people of Blackpool can achieve when we come together for such a special cause.

I can't wait to see you all this Halloween.
