Story
From the 1st of May to the 31st of May I will be running 200km to raise money for CALM, a incredible suicide prevention charity. I am taking on this challenge in memory of my friend Mike Kirkhope who I met through his involvement in the Ringwood and district round table. Mike was tragically taken from us too soon last week. Mike's death has left a huge hole. His kindness, enthusiasm & energy was always infectious, and Mike will be missed forever.
Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is leading a movement against suicide. Every week 125 people in the UK take their own lives. And 75% of all UK suicides are male.
What CALM do ?
- Operates a helpline and webchat for those in crisis.
- Funds suicide prevention campaigns and awareness initiatives.
- Supports bereaved families and friends affected by suicide.
- Develops mental health resources for workplaces and communities.
- Organizes fundraising events to engage the public in suicide prevention.
Too many men suffer in silence, not knowing how many people care, are here for them and want to help that’s why I will be inviting friends and family to join me on my runs, to provoke conversations about mental health in order to break down the stigma that surrounds the topic. Even if i can help just one person to open up or let more men know they don't have to "man up" they can cry, talk, share, break down, we can beat this together
Thank you!
