Story

Balloon Slacklining for St Peter’s Hospice

Thank you for being here.

My name’s Ed, and next year I’m taking on the biggest challenge of my life, attempting to slackline between two hot air balloons in flight to raise money for St Peter’s Hospice.

+ I’ve never slacklined before.

+ I’m scared of heights.

And that’s exactly why I’m doing this.

Why St Peter’s Hospice matters to me

In June 25, my mum died of cancer.

After her diagnosis, we were lucky to have time, two years that allowed us moments of normality alongside the hard days. As things progressed, the support around us became absolutely vital.

St Peter’s Hospice supported my mum before her passing, during her final days, and afterwards, not just clinically, but emotionally and practically. From night care that allowed us to rest, to community support that continued beyond her death, they were and are a constant presence when we needed or need it most.

This challenge is my way of giving something back.

The challenge

Over the coming months, I’ll be training from scratch to attempt a slackline crossing between two hot air balloons, high above the ground.

This will only go ahead if it can be done safely and responsibly, with professional support, clear milestones, and the right conditions. I’m not trying to be a professional athlete, I’m trying to face fear, prepare properly, and do something meaningful.

The current aim is June, around the one-year anniversary of my mum’s passing, but the priority will always be safety and readiness. If the date needs to move, it will.

How your support helps

Every donation will go directly to St Peter’s Hospice and help them continue their incredible work supporting people with life-limiting illnesses and their families, before, during, and after loss.

I’ll be sharing the full journey: the training, the setbacks, the fear, and hopefully the moment it all comes together.

Thank you for reading, thank you for supporting, and thank you for helping turn something difficult into something positive.
