Story

Hitting £75,000; Turning 70; and completing three separate challenges for Sarcoma UK!

Thank you for visiting my page.

My name is Barbara Kelsey and as many of you may know, our son-in-law, Andrew Wheddon, was diagnosed with sarcoma cancer of the stomach region in October 2011. At the time he had been married to our daughter, Jayne, for only 13 months. Within 12 months Andrew sadly lost his battle against the disease and died in October 2012, aged 30.

Inspired by Andrew’s bravery and determination, I, with my fellow challengers have been involved in all sorts of fund-raising efforts, from half marathons, golf days, black tie balls, triathlons and numerous long-distance challenges.

In those years we have raised £72,500.00. That money has provided funds into research of bone sarcoma in children as well as providing support and information to patients and families affected by all types of sarcoma. Three years ago, children are now surviving and living normal lives because of that research. A true legacy for Andrew.

Unfortunately, due to minor health issues and being that little bit older, it is now time to for my final challenge(s). These will consist of three separate events which will take place in 2026.

1. Walk Hadrian’s Wall in June. Cover the 87 miles in 9 days.

2. Swim 70 lengths in one session.

3. Complete 7 circuits of 10 machine exercises consecutively at my local Gymophobics in Sutton Coldfield.

Sarcoma is a type of cancer that develops in the bone and soft tissue. It is difficult to diagnose and one of the hardest to treat. By supporting me, your donation will help researchers find answers, keep our Support Line open, and raise awareness to improve treatment and standards of care.

Thank you for your support.
