Story

In December 2024 my wonderful Mum, Barbara spent the final week of her life being cared for by the most amazing team at the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Bellahouston, Glasgow.

Its hard to put into words what a special place the Hospice is, or how deep an impact being able to spend Mum's final days with her there had on all of us. In many ways I believe it made her loss easier and has left us with peaceful memories to cherish of her journey home. I know that may not have been possible in another setting.

In the 15 months since her passing we have also had a number of friends whose families have sadly also had to use the services of the Hospice.

Needless to say we feel passionately that the Hospice must be able to continue to offer this support to other families. While they do receive a percentage of their funding from the NHS they rely heavily on funds raised. In 2025 alone they need to raise £7 million to be able to fund care.

For this reason my brother Graeme, niece Jessica and our friends - Lorna, Kirsty, Derek and Kenny - are walking the Glasgow Kiltwalk Big Stroll to raise money for the Hospice. The walk involves walking 14.6 miles from Clydebank to Balloch on Sunday the 26th April 2026.

We all know how stretched everyone's finances are at this time but even a small donation can make a big difference. If you would like to sponsor any of the the team (Susan, Graeme, Jessica, Lorna, Kirsty, Derek or Kenny), aptly named Barbara's Bees, then please use this page.

On behalf of Barbara's Bees and everyone at Glasgow’s Hospice, thank you very much indeed for your donation.
