Story

CLIMBING THE UK'S 3 HIGHEST MOUNTAINS BAREFOOT, IN UNDER 24H

Two plucky climbers from the south coast are tackling the U.K's three highest mountains (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, Yr Wyddfa/Mt Snowdon) in under 24h, without shoes, socks, or foot protection.

UPDATES:

TRAINING MISSION 1-

Mt Snowdon/Yr Wyddfa training run completed 02.05.24 (1h43

We had a successful training mission up Mt Snowdon in poor visibility but generally dry conditions.

We bare footed from Pen-Y-Pass at 07:30am 02/05/24 and took the Pyg track to the summit, arriving at 09:13a.m.

HICCUP 1-

After an eventful month for all party members in May/June 2024 sadly we've decided to push the challenge back to 2025 :(

Regretfully we've had to postpone the challenge until June 2025, but the training and fundraising continues!!

Firstly, Rich's parents house move fell right on the intended June 2024 date which caused a few issues

Secondly, barefoot warrior Jonny has requested additional time to toughen his feet (very understandable)

Thirdly our driver Mike has a family emergency to attend to and has to pull out of the trip this year, leaving us barefooted up shit creek (so to speak) without a paddle.

And lastly our marketing expert Rosie lost a dear family member this year, which will impact our fundraising potential.

So we're going to sit back, re-group, and let the dust settle before having a less bothersome training run in 2025!

WHY?

Our objective is to raise as much awareness and funding for the PSPA as we can.

Secondarily, we hope to prove to the world that shoes are prisons for your feet; an optional protective barrier for the untrained, and great things have and can be achieved without them.

We aim to complete the challenge in under 24h (but we don't really care about that we just want to raise awareness and make a difference!)

RULES:

No shoes for the entire ascent of the hike.

Shoes allowed during descent for a speedy descent.

No shoes to be worn on the drive, flight, shopping trips and media opportunities either.

TRAINING

2024-2025: Rich & Jonny are climbing the mountains individually (bare footed) to work out the least sharp routes, timings, and develop soles of steel, before completing all 3 in a day in June 2025.

Other landmark training destinations include:

- Devil's Dyke to Ditchling Beacon; including Fulking Hill, Wolstonbury, Jack and Jill (chalk terrain)

- Winchester to Butser Hill (again chalky South Downs way terrain)

- Our local stony beaches; Hayling, Southsea, Brighton, Worthing, Bournemouth

- London landmarks (Buckingham Palace, The Shard, and Leicester Square all completed)

- Shopping Centre's and Supermarkets

WHO'S IT FOR?

We're doing this for Jane, Rich's mum, who was diagnosed with Progessive Supranuclear Palsy in 2021.

THE PSPA

We're raising awareness and funding for the PSPA, the only UK charity dedicated to improving the lives of people living with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) and Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD).

The PSPA provide information and support for people affected by PSP & CBD whilst funding research into the causes, treatment, and eventually a cure.
